Everyone knows about cherry blossom season here in Japan, but before the sakura, there are the ume (plum) blossoms. Just as lovely, just as fleeting. Dazaifu shrine, about 30 minutes from my apartment, is home to many plum trees. I didn’t get a chance to see them last year, so was determined to make it there this time.
Today was grey and rainy until the moment I headed back to Dazaifu station, but the trip was well worth it anyhow. Interestingly, some of the trees were past peak, some were right on, and others hadn’t gotten there yet. Those last need to get with the program, since sakura are due to peak in less than three weeks. To each thing its time….
